On U.S. dairies, the average mortality rate for pre‐weaned calves is about 7.8 percent,1 which means nearly all operations can make improvements in this area. Supporting calf health can pay dividends in reduced treatment costs, lowered death loss and improved gain and productivity.
To meet these goals, operations must ensure calves get a good start before they are challenged with stress. That takes attention to management practices and nutrition. Learn from top industry experts Michael Steele, Ph.D., and Andy Skidmore, D.V.M., Ph.D., about how to help manage calf health through the gut.
Steele, associate professor of animal physiology at the University of Guelph, will co-present the webinar. Steele’s research focuses on the mechanisms that control gastrointestinal health and development in cattle and has published more than 60 manuscripts.
Skidmore, a member of the Lallemand Animal Nutrition Ruminant Technical Services team, joins Steele as the other webinar presenter. A bovine practitioner, Skidmore earned his doctorate degree in dairy cattle management from Cornell University and has more than 30 years of experience.
