New Prague, Minn. (April 17, 2023) – The Dairy Calf & Heifer Association (DCHA) celebrated its heritage and legacy by holding a reunion and auction in conjunction with its annual conference and trade show, held April 11-13, in Prior Lake, Minn. The auction featured an original Bonnie Mohr painting – Enchanted Pastures – which sold for $15,000 to a syndicate of City View Farms, Merck Animal Health, Alta Genetics, SCCL, Hubbard Feeds/Alltech, Farm Credit Services and Zinpro. More than a decade ago, the Professional Dairy Heifer Growers Association (now DCHA) commissioned Enchanted Pastures – a beautiful landscape that displays a healthy and lively crop of young Holstein heifers on a lush, green pasture.

DCHA established its scholarship program more than a decade ago. Some recipients have furthered their education, including PhDs in dairy calf nutrition and veterinary medicine, while others have embarked on careers as dairy producers, animal health specialists and educators.

Typically, DCHA awards one $1,000 scholarship annually. The auction proceeds and print sales will help support two scholarships, awarded annually, in the future. As college costs continue to rise at an increasing rate, DCHA anticipates strong interest in its scholarship program.

DCHA has Enchanted Pasture prints available. To purchase a print, contact Sue Schatz at: sue@calfandheifer.org. Funds generated from the sale of these prints will go into the DCHA Scholarship Fund.

The Dairy Calf & Heifer Association (www.calfandheifer.org) was founded in 1996 based on the mission to help dairy producers, calf managers and those professionally focused on the growth and management of dairy calves and heifers. With a national membership of producers, allied industries and research leaders, DCHA seeks to provide the industry’s standards for profitability, performance and leadership, serving as a catalyst to help members improve the vitality and viability of their individual efforts and that of their business.
