New Prague, Minn. (March x, 2025) – “Coccidiosis in Calves: Natural Alternatives Compared to Ionophores for Coccidiosis Control” headlines the April 3 Dairy Calf & Heifer Association (DCHA) webinar. Michael Ballou, Texas Tech University, and Ellie Burroughs, Anpario technical product manager, will address coccidiosis – prevention, treatment and control – during this free, one-hour webinar that starts at 3 p.m. Central time (Chicago time).
To register for the webinar, go to: https://bit.ly/DCHAAnpario4325. As the webinar approaches, you will receive an e-mail with information on how to log in to participate.
During this webinar, Ballou and Burroughs will present the results of a recent coccidiosis infection challenge trial in weaned calves, comparing ionophores and natural feed additives. The results will focus on the effect on fecal egg count and growth performance, whilst also exploring how the breed of calves influenced the outcome.
Ballou, a nationally recognized nutritional biologist, earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science in 2002 and his doctorate in nutritional biology with an emphasis on immunology in 2007 – both from the University of California-Davis. He was recognized by the American Dairy Science Association in 2017 for outstanding achievement in research, teaching and service, and received the Chancellor’s Distinguished Research Award in 2016. His research program broadly focuses on understanding the immunological basis for diseases in high-risk populations of livestock. In the past Ballou’s research has centered on understanding how the innate immune responses of animals at various physiological states are involved in resistance to diseases and modulation of innate immune responses through management and nutrition practices.
Burroughs brings more than seven years of specialized expertise in ruminant nutrition to her current role at Anpario. With a strong foundation in both UK and international agricultural practices, her responsibilities include overseeing trial protocols, managing professional and commercial trials, and providing technical support to the international sales team. One of her main areas of focus is the U.S. cattle industry, particularly the calf ranch sector. Burroughs spends a significant amount of time in the Midwest and Southwest, visiting dairies, calf ranches and feed mills to provide technical support. Holding a master’s degree in ruminant nutrition from Harper Adams University in the United Kingdom and a bachelor’s degree in bioveterinary science from the University of Lincoln, Burroughs combines academic rigor with practical industry experience to drive advancements in global ruminant nutrition.
